What happens when three knitting pals --who also happen to be talented designers-- start chatting about their favorite "below skill level" (the term Mason-Dixon Knitting used!) knitting projects? Well, they write a book for the rest of us! The patterns are insta-classics--I have so many of them in my queue already--and are clearly written, even including awesome "signs" that you should pay attention whenever the pattern gets slightly more complicated. I love the variety--from finger puppets to gorgeous blankets, sweaters, hats, wraps, and mitts--and of course, as you'd expect when Gale Zucker is the photographer--the pictures are stunning. The writing makes you feel like you're hanging around with the authors--friendly and smart! This is a book that is worth owning, one you'll turn to again and again.
I usually don't buy knitting books that I have already looked at in the Library or a bookstore. I consider myself to be low intermediate knitter. I knit hats, sweaters, shawls, scarfs. I use double pointed needles and knit in the round. So I'm not a complete novice. I don't do a lot of fancy stitches, but I can knit basic YO lace stitches. I bought this book because it said Drop Dead EASY Knits, and they specifically said the patterns were great for times that you couldn't pay complete attention to your project. I knit a lot in the car and at events. I found these patterns to NOT be what I would consider easy. In my opinion you have to be a fairly experienced knitter. I'm keeping the book because I used a coupon to purchase, but I was disappointed with it.
I thought "drop-dead easy" meant that it was for a beginner. It doesn't. There are a variety if projects that I'd like to try, but not until I am more advanced in my skills. If you are a beginner, I wouldn't recommend this. If you've been knitting for a while and have made hats, sweaters and other projects that are more than basic, simple designs; you would enjoy this book more.
This is NOT a book for beginning knitters. When I read the title "Drop-Dead EASY Knits", that made me think this would be a goog book for beginners. It's not. This is for intermediate to advanced knitters. I'm sure it is "easy" for them, just not for beginner's. Now I have a lot of new stitches and techniques to learn before I can use this book. The pictures are lovely and the directions are thorough. Hopefully I can figure this out. If anyone can recommend a good book to help me progress from beginning to intermediate, I would very much appreciate that. Many thanks!
This has absolutely beautiful patterns that are simple and doable but look complex to the eye. I'm in love with the dog sweater and will bust out several to donate to my local shelter & for my own dog.
Not "drop dead easy", but some very nice beginner patterns. Some instructions would need tutoring for a novice, but not difficult to catch on. Beautiful results.
Lovely book. I purchased it because I like the Mason Dixon blanket and also like the scarf on the cover. For the price of 2 patterns I chose to purchase the book and have all of the patterns instead. It was a good choice and I look forward to knitting many of the patterns.
Keeps it simple and thoughtful-no overthinking or inane zen talk on the 'spirituality' of knitting. Just a simple and useful book.
