I love Bernadette. I chose her as my confirmation Saint so I've read a couple of biographies about her and of course watched the classic movie. However, this book just grated against me and I won't be passing it off to my kids. It was very negative and made most of the characters in Lourdes sound like complete superstitious nutcases and there was a HUGE focus on them the entire book; Bernadette's story was constantly pushed to the side and the focus was just on the wrong things. Focusing on false cases of "miracles" and people's weird negativity and thoughts about what was going on just seemed bizarre to me. There was no mention of the miracles of the roses; so that was left unanswered. It's almost like it was a book about what all the villagers did during the time and not even about Bernadette. Just very odd. I was hopeful as the end came about that it would highlight her extreme holiness during her time as a nun, but in classic disjointed form it basically told about her years before she was a nun and how she decided to become one; and then just as it was about to get into how she was finally accepted as a nun it talked about how she made one last visit to the grotto and then the book ended. Just very, very weird. No way am I going to give this jaded, weird biography to my kids. I'm so surprised because I love the Vision books.
My daughter couldn't wait for story time every night when I was reading this book to her. So thankful for engaging stories of the saints like this

We are enjoying this book as part of our homeschool curriculum. St. Bernadette is a wonderful person to look up to and I love Our Lady of Lourdes; this book gives us a good foundation to learn about both!
